High-priority bridges will be repaired and replaced. For other bridges, the City will perform preventative maintenance activities such as cleaning, painting and joint sealing at other locations.

Replacement of 106+ year old bridge over Decatur Street & CSX Railroad between Martin L. King, Jr. Drive and Gilmer Street. The City of Atlanta is responsible for right of way acquisition. GDOT is funding this project’s contstruction using the Design-Build method.
Retro-fit of 95+ year old bridge over Southern Railroad between Elliot Street & Spring Street for pedestrian use only. The Nelson Street Bridge was closed on January 24, 2017 and will not reopen due to extensive deterioration of major bridge components associated with the age of the structure. Public safety is of paramount importance, and the City of Atlanta is working diligently to announce plans for a replacement bridge, which will be funded through Renew Atlanta.
