Renew Atlanta Receives ACEC National Award for North Avenue Smart Corridor

The Renew Atlanta Bond and ATKINS partnership project has earned national recognition in the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition – also known as the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry”. The annual EEA competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value.

Since the September 2017 Ribbon Cutting ceremony, the project has garnered worldwide attention, as part of an effort to transform the city of Atlanta’s growing infrastructure needs. The $3 million project aims to be the most connected corridor in the state of Georgia, serving as a living lab for active, multimodal traffic management through technology deployment and data analytics.

“We’re really starting to get attention, not only nationally, but internationally for all the work that we’re doing,” General Manager Faye DiMassimo told Fox5 Atlanta in early February. “I think that we are absolutely right there leading this group of cities across the country that are really making a difference and looking toward the future…now.”

To date, the North Avenue Smart Corridor has earned 4 awards for it’s advanced signal technology that uses Artificial intelligence:

  • Georgia Intelligent Transportation Society – 2017 Project of Significance Award
  • National Recognition Award – 2018 ACEC Academy Awards of the engineering industry
  • State Award Winner, Technology Systems – 2018 ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards

The 2018 Georgia Engineering Awards took place on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. During the ceremony, the team was also awarded the 2018 ACEC People’s Choice Award, which is voted upon by the attendees of the Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards. A complete list of winners is available on the ACEC Georgia website.

Team leaders will also be recognized for the National Recognition Award during the black-tie Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on April 17, 2018 in Washington, D.C.
